Renting A Car Doesn’t Need to Drive You to the Poorhouse

POSTED BY

When it comes to travel, renting a car can sometimes be the most expensive thing on your list — sometimes, even more than the airfare.  But doing so doesn’t have to drive you to the poorhouse.  For example, did you know that picking up a car away from the airport can save you quite a bit? Or that some rental car companies have points programs where you can earn free days? And that some companies will rent by the hour? You may get a discount on a car rental if you are a member of AAA or AARP, or if you belong to a travel program where you get air miles for purchases. Check the fine print on your agreement. And if your personal car insurance covers you no matter what you’re driving, you can skip the car rental insurance and save a few more bucks. Here are some Websites where you can find out more: Kayak.com, Orbitz.com, Thrifty and Priceline. Enterprise  also has regular deals on rentals. Check them all out and see what works best for your needs.
