Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is proud to announce the return of the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project and will open the application process for a new Pikes Peak Poet Laureate on July 15.
The Poet Laureate Project champions diversity, equity, and inclusion within the literary arts and seeks a poetry enthusiast who can represent its objectives to a wide variety of age groups, socio-economic groups, and cultural backgrounds or heritage, in addition to all levels of educational attainment.
The Poet Laureate builds a literary arts community through poetry by developing an appreciation of written and performance poetry, as well as inspiring and celebrating poetry and poets in the Pikes Peak region with dynamic programs of engagement, advocacy and education. The individual should have an understanding of the state of poetry in the region, as well as the possibilities for innovation, development, and transformation.
This will be the first new poet laureate since 2017 .
Applications can be completed and submitted online starting Thursday, July 15 at ppld.org/poetlaureate. They can also be downloaded for completion and returned to any PPLD location. All applications must be received by Sunday, August 15, 2021.
