In the high country of Teller County, wintry weather can hit as early as October. But a little snow and cold doesn’t dampen the fun at Mueller State Park where hikes and other programs go on year round.
Camping also is a year-round activity at Mueller even as some sections of the campground will be closing for the season. October is a great time to enjoy the park and feel as if you have it all to yourself. Come and camp, hike or bring your horse to stay at our equestrian campsites.
Several guided hikes are scheduled to take advantage of the beauty of the month, which can tint golden aspen leaves with frosty white highlights.
October is a great time to join Mueller’s Fall Challenge Hikes. The Challenge is to hike all the trails at Mueller, about 60 miles, in four weeks. Guided Challenge hikes are offered three times per week, or hikers can do them on their own. Those that complete the Challenge will receive a certificate and prize to commemorate their effort.
Elk, bats and bighorn sheep are the focus of programs for visitors to learn about these interesting animals.
Mueller events are free with a valid $7 day pass, or $70 annual park pass per vehicle. For more information, call the park at 719-687-2366.
