The El Paso County Black Forest Slash and Mulch Program helps reduce fire danger in the area. Slash materials being accepted are: tree and bush trimmings, pine cones, and pine needles. No stumps or roots will be accepted. The site is located on the east side of Herring Road, just south of Shoup Road. The El Paso County Black Forest Slash and Mulch Program is a wildfire mitigation and defensible space effort sponsored by El Paso County and staffed entirely by Slash and Mulch Committee (SAMCOM) volunteers. Cost is $2 per load to cover the cost of processing. to El Paso County citizens. The Slash and Mulch site will have site operations on the following schedule: Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 7:30pm, Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Call 520-7878 for additional information.
